Austin Camilleri

Austin Camilleri is a visual artist whose installations, paintings, drawings, architectural work, video work, and sculptures reflect a deep inquiry into the human condition as it intertwines with the non-human. He presents ideas of time and transience that breathe a spiritual discernment into his work stones and lumen, a political scrutiny through works like zieme, and homo immortalis as well as an environmental sensitivity expressed in disgha, and night has fallen.
His work has been shown at the at BOZAR, at the Centrale Electrique, in Caixa Forum, ACVIC, Centro de Artes Contemporaneas, Anchorage Museum of Art, Kalmar Konstmuseum,, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Cluj-Napoca, Fondation Villa Datris, Galerie GNG in Paris, the Vatican Museum, MACRO Ex-Mattatoio in Rome, Villa Barbaro di Maser, Münchner Künstlerhaus, Konstanz Kulturzentrum, New Delhi Visual Arts Gallery, the Malta National Museum of Fine Arts and MICAS, Maltabiennale and Venice Biennale, among others.
In addition to his artistic production, Camilleri is also a curator, creative producer, lectures at the Faculty of Built Environment, University of Malta and collaborates with choreographers, musicians, writers, and theatre practitioners in interdisciplinary projects. His contributions to the arts have been recognized through several prestigious awards including the Malta Society of Arts’ Gold Medal and MASP architecture award.
